Reformatted old cartoon. Maybe this is what 2020 is telling us.
Fruited plains, you’re on deck.
Reading about President Trump’s intrepid excursion to St. John’s Church earlier this week, and seeing some accompanying images and videos, prompted my brain to pull up an old Far Side cartoon, Washington crossing the street.
I decided to pay tribute to the master, Gary Larsen, and put my own spin on his cartoon, inspired by POTUS’s recent outing. The resulting comic is below.
Felt compelled to draw Mr. Floyd last night.
Empathy means imagining myself as a black man, never feeling completely safe while out in public.
Empathy means imagining myself as a black parent, having the heartbreaking task of educating my children that they, because of their skin color, have to be extra careful with their words and their actions, that they are second-class citizens in land of the free and the home of the brave.
Black Lives Matter is a thing because we keep acting as if black lives don’t matter. Find your empathy.
Another rejected New Yorker cartoon…but a worthy effort, no?
