I have a soft place in my heart for giants, sedentary or otherwise.

My nephew posts funny pictures of himself on Instagram wearing a Lego head in various locales under the handle legoman_iac. If you’re so inclined, check him out and follow him. He asked me to do a Legoman cartoon and this is what I came up with. My first idea was to do something with a Lego lady involving the song “brickhouse” but when one looks closely at those lyrics…
Anyway…enjoy. 🙂

This cartoon is appearing today in the Beachcomber, a twice-monthly local newspaper in Long Beach, CA. A few weeks ago I sent a link to this blog to Jay Beeler, the editor of the Beachcomber. He liked the cartoons and wanted to support a local Long Beach artist, so he agreed to run a whiteouts cartoon in each issue.
Growing up I idolized folks like Charles Schulz (Peanuts), Gary Larson (The Far Side), and Bill Waterson (Calvin and Hobbes), and dreamed of being a newspaper cartoonist. It’s not the LA Times, but I’ve realized that dream and it makes me very happy.
I’m aiming for even bigger things but if this is as far as it goes, I’ll be grateful and content.
