I remember when our youngest was about 9 or 10, observing his sometimes surly older siblings. He came to us and said, with true empathy in his voice, “I want to apologize in advance for when I’m a moody teenager.”

I think kids start to get tired of this ritual around 4th grade. That’s my memory of when the eye rolls and dramatic sighing began. Good luck parents!

The wife has really taken to dog training—she’s brilliant at it: patient, firm, loving. Coincidentally, these are the same qualities she’s employed to train me.
