I posted the cartoon below on the 100th day of President Trump’s time in office: a faithful lady counting down the days until his time was up.
Originally I simply viewed Mr. Trump with distaste, wondering how a man who clearly lacked moral decency and any sense of humility could have been elected.
I’ve since, along with many, many others, grown to view him as an existential threat to The United States of America and to the world.
His failed leadership of of the coronavirus, resulting in thousands of unnecessary deaths, tens of thousands of jobs lost (more?), and destabilization of a healthy economy, has simply put an exclamation mark on three-plus years of dangerous behavior.
Whether he is stoking the racial divide in our country, encouraging fringe or extremist viewpoints, alienating traditional global allies or fawning over authoritarian dictators, he demonstrates that “Make America Great Again” is nothing more than a slogan.
President Trump doesn’t care about middle class or working class voters, he doesn’t care about evangelicals. Perhaps he cares a little bit about the extremely wealthy but only because he wants their acceptance and validation. He certainly doesn’t care about you or me.
We need a President with a moral center. Someone with basic decency. Someone who will treat the office with respect and humility. Someone who cares about more than his “brand.” Someone who doesn’t spend one third of their time on the golf course. Someone who has the strength of character to avoid Twitter when their feelings are hurt.
Please join me, join Independents and Democrats who were originally fooled by his rheotoric and empty promises, join the growing list of Republicans who are willing to abdicate four more years of the presidency, and join millions of others who know we cannot survive any more of Mr. Trump.
100 days. Vote him out.
