I wonder where he got number 2 about not being important. That seems consistent with the notion of being an insignificant speck in an immense universe, but not with a notion of the infinite worth of a human being, no? Awareness of value, doesn’t necessarily need to feed ego, does it, but can be helpful in carrying on through hard times.

I’m sure it has to do with the tearing down of the ego. He’s much too wise to not value the worth of individual life. I think all of these statements are correctives for a western culture that mostly swings too far in the other direction.
